I can’t believe that it is almost 2020! When I say that this year has flown by, I’m not exaggerating one bit. I remember last year around this time when I was planning for 2019 and 2020 seemed so far away. Now, it’s in a couple of of weeks!
My absolute favourite part about a new year is getting to sit down and plan out the upcoming year and set out my goals and strategies.
Everyone that knows me personally knows that I love to plan. Some of my friends even joke that I plan when I’m going to plan because I just love it so much!
For 2019, I used a bullet journal for most of the year (January to October) but I was falling behind on making the spreads when I started university, so I downloaded the free planning pages from Day Designer, printed them and taped them into my bullet journal so I could get used to the spread and also so I could have a planner for 2019 because the bullet journal wasn’t working anymore.
I am going to be trying a new method of setting goals for myself since I got a new planner for 2020 – the 2020 Day Designer Mini Daily Planner in the Perfectly Paisley print.
I’m already obsessed with it, so I know I’ll love it even more for the new year!
At the beginning of all of their planners, they have few goal-setting pages that I’ve been utilizing recently and they have really helped me set better goals.
On the very first page of the planner, there is a block to write your word of the year, and I’d never felt compelled to have one of these until late this year.
Word of the Year: “Consistency”
Throughout 2019, I have seen how far consistency can get me, whether that is with my YouTube channel and Instagram, school or just life in general, so I intend for that to be my word of the year so that everything can revolve around it.

Now that my word of the year is out of the way, let’s jump into my 2020 goals!
Content Creation
❑ 1 Brand Sponsorship a Quarter
To achieve this goal, I need to start pitching myself to brands more. I used to do this a bit more back during the summer, but I haven’t pitched myself recently, and I need to do that if I want to have quarterly sponsorships.
I am a big believer in the fact that you can’t wait for people to reach out to you to do something. If you want to do something, get out there and do it!
I had my first brand sponsorship this past summer, and it has taught me so much when it comes to working with brands, so I definitely want to continue to do more!
Social
❑ Hang out with a Friend Monthly
I’ve been becoming more social as the months go by, but there are some friends I have that I only hang out with at school. That’s great and all, but there are also friends that I don’t go to school with anymore that I’d still love to keep in touch with, so this is a huge goal for me.
❑ Text a Friend Biweekly
If you know me personally, you know that I’m possibly the worst texter you know.
However, I like doing things that I’ve planned to do, so I’m going to be taking a few hours out of each week (or at least biweekly) to text a friend that I haven’t spoken to in a while or a close one that I just miss.
Health
❑ 30 Minutes of Exercise Five Time Weekly
I had a talk with my favourite time management author, Laura Vanderkam and I tracked my time for her. She gave me ways I can incorporate more exercise into my life by simply walking for 30 minutes every morning and I’ve been loving it!
Since the wifi in my house can’t reach the gym, it used to be a boring thing, but then I decided not to watch vlogs while I was relaxing, but download them all to watch when I’m walking. It has made the experience so good that sometimes I don’t want to stop!
It’s especially a fun time around December when everyone is uploading for Vlogmas – a yearly tradition in which vloggers of the YouTube community gear up for Christmas by posting a video each day of December (Resource Mag Online), so I have a ton of vlogs to watch everyday.
❑ 1 Bottle of Water Daily
I know, I know. I need to drink more than 1 bottle of water, but at this point, I would drink a bottle of water over the space of about 3 days and it’s not good at all.
Instead of being too ambitious and saying “Imma drink 5 bottles of water every day,” I’ll just set a small goal – 1 bottle.
Faith
❑ In-Depth Quiet Time Once a Week
I pray every morning, but actually reading my Bible and studying it doesn’t happen currently. I intend to do one every Sunday morning when I have time to relax and just sit in my bed and do it.
Last week, I downloaded a few reading plans from the YouVersion Bible app, and I’m currently doing the Proverbial Girl plan. I hope to take that into the new year and make it a consistent part of my life.
❑ Gratitude Log Once a Week
It’s a well-known fact that practicing gratitude makes you a happier person. In my new planner, there’s a section at the bottom of each page for gratitude and I think that is really going to help. The only reason I only practice it on-and-off right now is that I keep forgetting, so I think that section will help with that.
Self-Development
❑ Duolingo Spanish Three Times Weekly
I’ve been consistently taking a Spanish class for about seven years now, but ever since I finished secondary school, I haven’t practiced much at all. This is definitely a problem because learning a language isn’t just something you can not do for six months and still know.
I plan to use the Duolingo app three times a week to practice my Spanish so I don’t get rusty because I’d love to be fluent one day. Sunday, Monday and maybe Friday sounds good, but I’m not sure what next semester’s schedule will be like, so I’ll decide then.
Finances
❑ Save $500 for a Camera
I’ve upgraded a few things for my YouTube channel like going from editing on my iPhone to buying a MacBook Pro and from using exclusively natural light to investing in a ring light.
The only thing I haven’t invested in yet is a camera, and I still record everything on my iPhone 7 Plus. People are always shocked when I say that because the quality is so good, but I’d love to step up my quality even more.
I’ve been looking at the Canon G7X Mark II and it looks like an amazing starter camera. On Amazon, it’s around $500 (including accessories), so I hope to save that money through a combination of content creation revenue and random money I receive throughout the year.
